Ideas in Color

June 23, 2024 @ 1:41pm

What a nice weekend, it has been. And now it is ending on such a peaceful Sunday with my little family. Yesterday, I attended this event celebrating women and our need as women to lift each other up and, most importantly, practice self-love regularly. We all were dressed, according to the theme. It was really beautiful seeing different generations in a room. Young women in their teens all the way up to Seasoned women in their 70s. From listening and observing these women, another book idea came to me. As Chicagoans, we all have stories from our childhood that come from an “area”, “neighborhood”, or a “block” and those stories will never be forgotten. Stories that led to physical and emotional maturation, or an understanding of the roles people have around us, or that helped us become who we are today. So one of my next projects will celebrate those childhood stories that we all can connect to while also learning or realizing more about our individual selves. The story ideas keep coming and colors for those ideas keep coming too. I am seeing these childhood stories colors in green, blue, gray, black and brown. I see my city, Chicago, flag. I see the dusty yards in Soweto, South Africa. I see the plush forests in the Fern Gully in Jamaica. I see the waters flowing at Niagara Falls. I feel my stories will connect our worlds and each other, through the beautiful minds and spirits of our children.
